Clubs and Activities:

I have found that a very important aspect of my college career is joining clubs and getting involved in various activities both on and off campus. These have given me an opportunity to extend my learning from the classroom to the real world, and have also given me leadership opportunites and opportunities to challenge myself.

Honors Program:

I have been a member of the Honors Program for two years since I came to Eastern in Fall 2008. The program has given me a chance to take challenging course, like the various honors colloquia offered every semester. I have also had the opportunity to travel to the annual Northeast Regional Honors Conference, which was held in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania this year. The program also aids me in writing a thesis in my junior and senior year and has helped me to make many friendships, both with peers and professors.

WECS Radio:

As a sophomore I got involved with Eastern's radio station, WECS. The station is student run and plays mostly rock and indie music. WECS is on air 24/7 with jazz and rock filling in the gaps between DJs. The station gives students an opportunity to get hands on experience and have their own radio show. Student DJs are given training and then have the freedom to do their own programming.

Communication Honor Society-Lambda Pi Eta:

I was inducted into Eastern's Tau Nu chapter in Spring 2010. Advised by Dr. Toles-Patkin, the organization participates in University events, career development and graduate school workshop, networking opportunities, and professional conferences.

Housing-Resident Assistant:

I was hired as a Nutmeg Hall Resident Assistant for the 2010-2011 school year. As an RA I will have the enormous responsibility of helping residents with problems, running programs, and enforcing rules within my hall. Although a very time consuming and difficult job, being an RA teaches leadership skills and allows for networking and new friendships.

Relay for Life Team Captain:

One of my most important activities outside of Eastern is organizing an American Cancer Society Relay for Life team every summer. This is my sixth year being involved with the relay that raises money for cancer research and also provides cancer sufferers and their families an even that gives them both support and hope.
